Iraq – Seminar on combating intolerance and religious extremism

With the participation of a number of professors and researchers, the Media Development Center organized a seminar on the concept of extremism and its types and ways to confront it in cooperation with the Ammar International Foundation in Baghdad. The seminar aims at defining the concept of extremism and its dangers and effects in exacerbating political, social, economic and security problems. The seminar discussed several points including extremism’s role in the exacerbation of terrorism in Iraq, national integration and its role in nation-building, in addition to the demographic effects of extremism and terrorism. The seminar also discussed the role of social media sites in spreading extremism as well as religious discourse and its impact on intellectual extremism and legal and educational means to address its threat.
