Syria – Semalka Border Crossing, a lifeline in Northeastern Syria

Semalka border crossing on the Tigris River in Al-Hasakah Governorate, northeast of Syria, is the only connection between Kurdistan Regions of Iraq and Syria and therefore, it is the only lifeline in the region. It used for the delivery of humanitarian aid and food to northern Syria and also used to transport the wounded and sick to receive treatment in Iraqi Kurdistan as a result of the siege imposed on the region, in addition to being a commercial line for the transport of goods back and forth.
