Storyline:

As civilians begin to enjoy Yemen’s fragile ceasefire- a new phenomenon has arrived in the southern port city of Aden.

Roving trucks ply the streets selling shawarma and burgers and have become an instant success as the town returns to normalcy.

Truck owners say they are a part of a trend of young people who are starting small businesses determined to make a living despite an economic crisis exacerbated by soaring fuel prices and an unemployment rate topping thirteen percent.

Abdul Rahman Al Daboui, a restaurant owner, told A24 News Agency that his restaurant offers shawarma and burger meals with a unique taste that is popular among customers.

Al Daboui thinks young people should take advantage of their free time and find work in emerging  small businesses such as his.

Ebadi Ahmad, a citizen, welcomes the idea of having such restaurants in Aden, saying their food is delicious and reasonably priced.

– Soundbite (Abdul Rahman Al Daboui – Owner of a mobile restaurant):
“I have been running this small business for a year now and have gained a good reputation, as well as many customers. There are over 20 food trucks here, each with a designated spot and special menu. Our menu includes shawarma and burgers with a special taste that is popular among customers. Young people should take advantage of their free time and work instead of spending their days idly. I plan to grow my business so that I could someday open a restaurant.”
– Soundbite (Ebadi Ahmad – Citizen):
“We as young people support the idea of having fast food restaurants in Aden. We frequent such restaurants, as their fast food is delicious. Food trucks always compete with one another on food taste and prices.”
