Physicians and public health advocates from throughout the Middle East are meeting in Sharjah to continue their work saving the lives of women in Arab societies.

The Friends of Cancer Patients Association in the UAE organized the preparatory workshop for the Arab Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign with representatives from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Sudan, and Libya.

The idea for the Arab coalition began at a conference held in Jordan in 2015

Dr. Reem Al-Ajlouni, director of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program said the UAE  workshop is advancing  Arab cooperation in the field and serves as a milestone for achievements made and identify future steps to reach every Arab woman and raise awareness.

Wednesday’s workshop mapped out plans for additional scientific research and evidence-based information to promote health policies for breast cancer prevention.

The idea for Arab coalition started in a conference held in Jordan in 2015, as it was one of the recommendations for breast cancer prevention. The Arab coalition was established in 2016, more than a dozen Arab countries have joined us so far. We hope to achieve the goal and protect Arab women from breast cancer.”

“We started in 2016, this initiative of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program, with the leadership and support of King Hussein Cancer Center, in cooperation with Arab countries to promote community awareness and change societal behaviors. So far, we have launched six joint Arab campaigns. Being in Sharjah today, in the workshop hosted of the Friends of Cancer Patients Association, constitutes a milestone for achievements made and future steps to reach every Arab woman and raise awareness. The workshop marks a step towards other fields, including scientific research and advocacy studies evidence-based information to promote health policies for breast cancer prevention.”

“The Iraqi Association for Combating Breast Cancer, is a non-governmental organization here in this workshop to represent Iraq, as part of the Arab Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. This gathering of Arab countries seeks to cross-fertilize visions and plans in order to motivate us to improve our work. We thank all organizers for hosting this workshop and allowing us to be part of this enriching experience.”
