The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, held a press conference at the end of his first visit since his appointment to the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, which lasted for three days. On his visit, Grundberg held several talks with Houthi group leaders. The UN envoy said that his discussions focused on the necessity of implementing the “broadly holding truce”, as well as ensuring the parties’ continued commitment to it, adding that it is in the interest of the Yemenis aimed at ending conflict and violence. According to the envoy, there was a significant decrease in hostilities after the announcement of the truce, stressing that they work intensely to open Sanaa airport’s first commercial flight that had been suspended for years. They also prepare for a meeting to agree on a clear mechanism for reopening main roads in Taiz and other governorates. He pointed out the importance of serious engagement of the parties in order to implement the truce.
