Storyline
The French Institute in Gaza organized a photo exhibition to mark International Women’s Day, with the participation of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in the Strip.
Many artists participated in the exhibition with about 30 artworks that simulate the life of Palestinian women.
The exhibition also featured pictures and paintings on the Palestinian heritage and Islamic sanctities.
The participants in the exhibition are looking forward to a change in society’s behavior towards women who participate with men equally and to be treated fairly in society by honoring them instead of the violence they are exposed to.

- (SOUNDBITE) Dalia Abdel Rahman – Gaza Atelier Project coordinator:
“The exhibition contains 30 artworks by 13 artists. It is the product of several art workshops that have been implemented during the past two months. The theme of the exhibition is mainly related to women. We, as artists, hope to convey our message to the world and as Palestinian women suffering from the siege and wars on Gaza. We express our dreams and aspirations through art. We hope to display our work abroad.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Suhail Tarazi – President of the YMCA:
“The exhibition is to celebrate Women’s Day. It shows the extent of women’s participation in Palestinian society, and it is an expression of freedom and equality, an expression of pain and sadness, as well as peace and love. All these distinctive paintings are done by a group of girls and women at the YMCA. The exhibition is organized by the French Institute. It is a distinguished work that shows the role of women in Palestinian society.”
