Storyline

On Valentine’s Day, a popular shopping festival, titled “Love gather us” was held in Abu Nawas Gardens, on the banks of the Tigris River, Baghdad with the participation of people from different backgrounds who displayed their crafts.

The crafts offered included calligraphy, decoration, and drawing, printing names on stone and wood, making accessories, drawing impressionist paintings, carving on wood, and creating very detailed models of vintage cars and weapons.

The participants hope that their handicrafts spread and sold in such well-attended festivals.

Shotlist

  • (SOUNDBITE) Ghadir Al-Sabah- Participant:

“I am participating in this festival, which is held in Abu Nawas Gardens, with my crafts, painting, sculpture, and resin. I wanted to present the potentials of women and their ability to achieve their goals”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Omar Youssef – Participant:

“I do wood carving and make models of rare cars and weapons. I came here to introduce my work. I started this profession almost four years ago learning from YouTube.”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Inas Akram – Participant:

“I make handicrafts using resin, and it is a modern art that I saw abroad and wanted to make in my country. I encountered difficulties in the beginning, because the raw materials did not exist, later they became available but expensive. Resins are known to be used on floors but I use them in making accessories and serving dishes. I also make paintings. I am participating for the first time and I am very happy. I introduce my work because no one knows it.”
