Storyline:

The Gulf of Aden Foundation for Human Development and Social Services conducted a workshop to assess the educational system to reform it, under the auspices of the Governor of Aden Ahmed Hamid Lamlas and the local leadership of the Southern Transitional Council. The two-day workshop, with the participation of 60 academics at the University of Aden and the education sector, focused on four topics: assessment of the reality and problems of the elementary and secondary education system, the factors for the deterioration of educational outcomes, both public and private, the negative consequences and risks resulting from the low level of education, and solutions and treatments. Dr. Mahmoud Shayef, President of the Gulf of Aden Foundation, pointed out that the workshop is part of the Foundation’s keenness to establish a philosophical mechanism to reform the education system, as it is a priority in addressing ignorance and eradicating outdated concepts that hinder society, appreciating the concerns and support of the Southern Transitional Council leadership and the local authority in the capital, Aden, for the activities and programs of the foundation that aim to find radical solutions to many national matters.

  • (SOUNDBITE) Dr. Muhammad Shayef – Had of the Gulf of Aden Foundation):

“The workshop is conducted to assess the reality of the education system and methods to reform it. It was held on Wednesday and Thursday, it has great importance amid the reality and changes in the society and political, military, security, and cultural transformations. Therefore this workshop aims to address the weakness of the educational process in general, elementary and secondary education in particular”

  • (SOUNDBITE) Rania Khaled – Professor at the University of Aden:

“I participated in a worksheet that deals with university education, but during the presentation, everyone noticed that we, as university cadres or social cadres, are not away from the education cadres. We are in one boat and we are all suffering from the same issues. We work for the future of this country and the youth, thus we should take care of the education process because the youth will not carry out the development of this country. Their educational level is not good, so we hope that the concerned authorities take care of this educational aspect and the importance of education in lifting this country from its current situation, this won’t be done without education.
