Storyline:
Fashion designer Khalil Khader and his partner Aya Eid opened the first international fashion center in Gaza.
The center trains women and youth to design modern and international fashion, using recent sewing machines, in a two-month course where the trainee is ready to design and implement all his works for the market.
Gaza Strip depends on imported fashion, but now these trainees can produce different designs that can compete with imported and international ones.

(SOUNDBITE) Khalil Khader – Trainer and Co-founder of Fashion Design Education Center:
– “We opened the fashion center to train all groups; women, youth, or the elderly. We train them to innovate and develop fashion design in the Strip and compete with European countries, because we lack fashion design, so we opened the first center in Gaza to teach fashion design and develop it to get as many trainees as possible. We train students on drawing designs, how to use sewing machines and make clothes. Most of them design traditional pieces so we train them to design non-traditional clothes so that they can create new designs. The duration of our course is two months in which we focus on that the student to engage in the market.”
(SOUNDBITE) Aya Eid – Trainer and Co-founder of Fashion Design Education Center:
“The student comes to us unqualified and needs training from scratch to join the market. We design, sew, and prepare the entire piece. Some do not find what they want in the market so they come to us and we make them their color, size and other things. The issue in Gaza is that it depends on imported clothes, we are good designers, and we can create many beautiful pieces.”
(SOUNDBITE) Mohammed – Trainees:
“I hear that fashion designs are imported and do not exist in Gaza. We are in a fashion design education center, we will benefit from the training so that we can start a private project. We have started designing small pieces and more are ahead to design professionally.”
