Syria – Volunteer activities in Raqqa to assist orphans and homeless children

231

After a considerable number of children lost their parents in the war, child homelessness has become a phenomenon across Raqqa’s streets, which motivated young volunteers from the city to host this group to protect them and provide them with psychological support. Euphrates Ataa Organization, an NGO concerned with the Care of Orphaned Children, is run by youth volunteers, currently hosts 36 children, and provides them with health care, psychological support, education, sports, and other sciences. The organization receives very basic financial funds that do not allow it to open its doors to larger number of children. Some children there have been abandoned by their parents or witnessed their killing; consequently, they are now suffering a severe psychological problem, while the organization attempts to compensate and treat them according to the resources available.
