Cambodia – Cambodia discovers and endangered crocodiles
the Ministry of Environment’s wildlife research team in Cambodia has recently confirmed that they discovered eight hatchlings of the critically endangered Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) in the Sripok wilderness, as the team monitored some newborn crocodiles by cameras at the site, after in-depth research from 2019 to 2021 conducted in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature and the Ministry of Environment, in addition to other partner organizations. The country’s director at WWF Cambodia, Mr. Teak Seng, stated that the monitoring process of crocodiles will set a new record for Cambodia, by placing the region globally as a successful place for crocodiles to lay their eggs, and classifying it within one of the areas with the highest protection potential in the world, not only for rare crocodiles since many other endangered species are looked after in Cambodia. Cambodia is a potential area for Siamese crocodiles, it has about 50% of the world’s crocodile population.
