Syria- Drought and Diseases Pose a Threat to Crops in East and North Syria

Amid dwindling precipitation, farmers and residents in north and east Syria, a region that relies solely on growing crops for making a living, voiced their concerns as drought swept the region. Scarcity of seeds along with growing prices of fertilizers, pesticides, and farmland plowing exacerbated farmers’ concerns. This was coupled with the fact that the livestock sector has been witnessing hefty losses, as fodder prices went up. Breeders failed to address the soaring prices, which coerced many into selling their cattle at low prices. Therefore, farmers and breeders illustrated that with receding rainfalls, starvation became inevitable
