Syria – Warnings of a humanitarian disaster in north and east Syria due to Covid
The Health Authority in North and East Syria held a press conference in the Department of Foreign Relations in Qamishli, to emphasize the possibility of the region being exposed to a humanitarian catastrophe due to the rapid spread of Covid and the increase in the number of cases and deaths. Joan Mustafa, the co-chair of the Health Authority, stated that the fourth wave is threatening the residents of the region in all its categories, including the youth, and that the 15 centers that were established to receive Corona patients are full and there is no room to accommodate larger numbers than that. Joan said during the press conference that the lack of materials in these centers and the urgent need for oxygen constitute the biggest threat to the work of the Health Authority and the Kurdish Red Crescent.
