Yemen – “Mashagir” An ancient tradition passed down through generations in Taiz

Mashagir is one of the most important cultural legacies that the people of Yemen in general and Taiz Governorate in particular are used to, while they preen their heads with a bundle of fragrant plants. Because of its special symbolism and artistic significance that is passed down through generations. Mashagir can be found easily in local markets beside that locals are abundantly growing inside their houses. 9th September of every year locals celebrate ‘Mashagir Day’ so young men and women adorn with Mashagir in an old fashioned way, Escaping from war and breaking the siege imposed on the city to the scent of Mashagir mixing it with joy that grants them abridge to life, practicing their usual way of living beautiful life in the city of Taiz and its freedom Woven in their own aspiring way to life with all their strength, “Mashagir” is defined as a bundle of branches, carefully picked from various aromatic plants of varying shape and smell, expressing artistic value and love embodied in Mashagir lovers.
