Iraq – 36 thousand asylum requests to Europe, most of them from Kurdistan
According to the Special Summit Foundation for Iraqi Refugees, about 36,000 Iraqi refugees have immigrated and applied for asylum to Europe this year 70% of them from the Kurdistan region, where Germany came first among the asylum requests, they added that around 15 to 20 thousand people are residing in the Balkan countries waiting for the opportunity to migrate, pointing out that the majority of refugees are young people. The organization attributes the reasons for the increase in the number of immigration and asylum applications to the economic crisis and the difficulties facing young people, the foremost of which is the high unemployment rates among university graduates.
