Iraq – Protests form an opposition front to boycott the Iraqi elections
More than forty protest movements and political parties announced the formation of an opposition front to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections. The protest movement consists of elites, political figures, and civil activists who belong to the popular October movement. The opposition forces confirmed that their boycott of the elections lies in the lack of integrity of the upcoming elections due to the absence of the appropriate conditions for holding them, which the opponents set through their demonstrations, such as uncontrolled weapons and the failure to implement the parties’ law, which rejects any political party that owns an armed militia from participating in the elections. The opposition front called on the Iraqi people to boycott the upcoming elections because, like the previous ones, they will not achieve the desired change and the dominant political forces in power will remain as they are.
