Turkey: Istanbul’s Six Gates are Witnesses of the Rich History of the city
The historical gates of Istanbul, which were witnesses of Constantinople’s fall to the Ottomans in 1453, still exist today despite being partly ravaged by the war. Periodically, the Directorate of Antiquities in Istanbul is keen to preserve and rehabilitate the 6 gates. Talib Al-Daghim, a historical researcher, indicated that the walls of the city are held in high regard especially that some of which were used for defense and others were designed for trade movement and market purposes
