Syria – Poor sales of wool factories due to the Syrian crisis
Wool factories in Manbij worked to receive wool from all the northern and eastern governorates in Syria, such as Raqqa, Hasaka, Deir ez-Zor, and its affiliated countryside, which is famous for raising livestock and sheep, to feed the market with wool. Owners buy raw wool from sheep breeders and distribute it to dozens of villages, to wash the wool and then the factory works to press it, tie it, and prepare it for transportation to the central market in Hama to work on deporting it outside Syria, such as India. Professionals say that the Syrian crisis and road closures have affected their work a lot, as quantities of wool accumulate in their warehouses, and there is no way to dispose of the material. According to workers in the profession, the crisis has emerged dramatically after the closure of the crossings between the Autonomous Administration areas and the Syrian government, which threatens workers with their work and their source of livelihood.
