Yemen- Despite Appalling Humanitarian Conditions in Yemen, African Refugees Flow into Yemen
Amid appalling humanitarian conditions in Yemen induced by 6 years of relentless war, flows of refugees continue to worsen Yemen’s gloomy reality. Numerous illegal migrants make their living by working in different fields. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that the number of refugees and asylum seekers reached 137 thousand, not to mention that 40% of them are women. Most of which came from Somalia and Ethiopia. In a recent incident, at least 150 illegal African migrants were found dead at the coast of Ras Al-Ara in Lahj Governorate, southern Yemen. Moreover, a hunting boat with 400 illegal migrants drowned after it bumped another boat on the Africa coasts. The International Organization for Migration indicated that it is probing reports about a sinking ship carrying large numbers of migrants from the Horn of Africa
