Tunisia: Grassroot Demonstrations Against Security Forces Violations Broke Out

Sidi Hassine neighborhood’s families in Tunis rallied against the heinous crime committed by three members of the security forces, in which a citizen was beaten to death. Incensed families demanded prosecuting the perpetrators. For its part, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Tunis expressed its concerns over the grave violations committed by the Tunisian police. For six days, unrest broke out as protestors rallied against the police violence. Narratives about the incident that occurred on the 8th of June were conflicting as some activists reported that the security forces have beaten him to death when he refused to voluntarily get in their car. Whereas the Ministry of Interior claimed that a patrol was searching the area and was chasing a suspect. Later, the police were informed that his body was brought into the hospital
