Mongolia – Covid and its impact on the religious practices of Mongolian Muslims
135,000 Muslim Kazakhs are living in Mongolia, forming 3.9% of the population, 80% of them live in the western province of Bayan-Ulgii. The Kazakhs also make up 10% of Khovd province and 30% of the Nalaikh district population. Mongolian Kazakhs formed their first association in the 1990s, and in 2007 it became the Mongolian Muslim Association, which unites all Islamic mosques in Mongolia as currently, there are more than 60 Islamic mosques and around 20 schools in Mongolia and their operations have been suspended for more than a year due to the pandemic.
