Mongolia – Experts: Soil contamination in Ulaanbaatar reaches a high level

Soil contamination in Ulaanbaatar is increasing year by year, it was at a low level in 1990 but today it reached the fourth level which is very high at. Experts and researchers stated that the main factors that contribute to soil pollution are waste and unlined latrines that families use in ger areas in the capital, and the soils in Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar, and Bayangol districts contain the highest levels of bacteria and toxic chemicals, warning that urban soil pollution issue is worse than air pollution, because soil pollution affects a person’s mental ability negatively, and cause intestinal infections and cerebral hypertension for children.
