Iraq – The uncontrolled arm in the possession of the militias threatens the elections
The uncontrolled arm in Iraq, in the position of the militias, poses a real threat to state institutions, as appeared recently when a group known as “Rabu Allah”, associated with the pro-Iranian Popular Mobilization Militia, filmed a video threatening the government to steal banks if their financial dues were not paid. Observers stressed that keeping weapons in the possession of militias in an uncontrollable manner would undermine civil and societal security, with the risk that they would target official government institutions, and they urged the government to resolve the file and confiscate arms that are not under security control, especially with the upcoming elections that are scheduled on October 10.
