Palestine: Delaying Palestinian Elections Drew Divergent Reactions

Upon the declaration of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s decision to delay the Palestinian elections until Israel allows East Jerusalemites to vote, some Palestinian factions voiced their utter rejection. The top of which was Hamas, who denounced the decision and deemed it an attempt to deny the Palestinian nation its right to vote and choose its leaders. Fatah official Munther Hayek made it clear that no elections would take place without Jerusalem, indicating that the presidential decree stipulates that elections must be held on the Palestinian territory that covers the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem
