Iraq: Mafias Specialized in Counterfeit Consumer goods and Fake Brands Thrive in Iraq
During the last few years, the markets in Iraq have been flooded with counterfeit consumer goods and because of the fake brands, shop owners are suffering the most, as their goods are subjected to the supervisory authority’s criterion. Chairman of the Market Regulation Committee in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Soran Ghafour illustrated that goods are subjected to the supervision of the customs and commercial authorities all around the world, adding that there are specialized mafias in counterfeit consumer goods and in fake brands, not to mention that some of which import machines for this regard inside Iraq as they take advantage of the consumer’s ignorance. Member of the Quality Committee at the Ministry of Industry, Muhammad Al-Khalidi revealed that there are at least 5000 workshops that manufacture different substances and fake international brands
