Tunisia: Tunisia Slips Down in the Annual World Press Freedom Ranking to the 73rd Position
Reporters Without Borders disclosed that Tunisia has slipped down in the annual world press freedom ranking. During a press conference, the organization clarified that restrictions and repressive laws on the freedom of the press, which accompanied the outbreak of coronavirus, have intensified lately. Tunisia ranked first among the Arab states’ press freedom index while ranked 73 in the world index. Tunisia moved from the 72nd to the 73rd position in the world press freedom ranking in 2021. Experts attributed Tunisia’s fallback to the government push into tightening the noose on journalists, considering it a grave indicator that threatens the freedom of the press, which was deemed one of the main Tunisian revolution’s gains
