Tunisia –Poverty left by Covid pushes high numbers of people to register in the Iftar events
“Darsaf Al-Yaqoubi” a civil society activist and the head of the Support Association in Hilal neighborhood, the poor common neighborhood near the capital, Tunis, has started, around nine years ago, with a group of women from the association preparing food and arranging Iftar events for poor families and needy residents of the neighborhood; however, due to the pandemic, she provided Iftar and Suhoor meals to 240 people. Darsaf pointed out that the number of people coming to Iftar is increasing compared to previous years, due to the grim conditions left by poverty and unemployment as a result of the pandemic, as well as the state’s lack of interest in this group, according to her.
