Tunisia: Bizerte’s Women Resort to Self-Defense Techniques to Encounter Sexual Harassment
Amid rampant violence and sexual harassment in public places, Sahar Jafar dedicated her expertise to train women on self-defense mechanisms. Sahar is a self-defense instructor in Bizerte town, who seeks to hone women’s skills in martial arts to be able to survive in an unsafe society. Against all odds, she encourages parents into developing their daughters’ self-defense abilities. Sports in general were confined to men. However, according to Sahar, women in Bizerte started to believe that Tunisian women can assume pioneering roles in all fields and can manage to balance between having two jobs.
