Iraq- The preparations of Pope’s Mass continue at the Francois Stadium in Erbil
Erbil city is preparing to welcome Pope Francis, who will deliver a sermon at the Francois Hariri stadium in the city, on March 7th, in his first-ever to set foot despite the spike of the new strain of Coronavirus. The visit is part of the Pope’s historic visit to Iraq, which will involve several stops near Baghdad and Erbil. Father Dinkha Abdul Ahad, the organizer of the Pope’s Mass, and the priest of the Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese of Erbil pointed out that the mass will be held at the François Hariri Stadium attended by 10,000 worshipers despite it can hold 30,000. This lessening is to keep social distancing as a precautionary measure to control Covid. Abdel Ahad has stated that the names of those who will attend this mass have been registered and that the number of cards available was limited, besides, the logistical and organizational arrangements for the mass such as providing places to sit and pray, as well as organizing the entry and exit, were also made in collaboration with the regional government.
