Iraq –Farmers of Basra calls to stop importing vegetables from Iran

33

Farmers and marketers of crops in Basra Governorate called on the Iraqi government to restrict importing vegetables and close the borders with Iran, asking the authorities in Baghdad to focus on what is produced in the city and export the rest to market and support the local product. Agricultural crop merchants stated that keeping the border crossings open leads to the importing of crops from Iran, which significantly affected the local products in terms of marketing and prices. Traders stressed the need to adopt a single marketing center and close the random, non-official sub-centers, which they described as it disperse the entry and obtaining the crops besides the price variations.
