Dropping out of school in Tunisia has stirred public controversy in all its aspects, especially in light of the fact that during a 5 years span, 500 thousand students have left school. Tunisian teachers illustrated that the growing phenomenon can be attributed to a number of factors, including educational issues and poor economic and social realities. Studies indicated that the rate has swelled from 1.2 percent to 10 percent, not to mention the increase in school dropouts in primary education, especially for fifth and sixth-year pupils. Observers believe that school dropout can be blamed on both parents and the Ministry of Education, whose duty is to improve the programs and keeping pace with the advanced educational curricula
