Yemen: Battles over Maʼrib, with Governmental Forces Fighting back to Defend the Region
Houthi Militias ramped up the attacks on Maʼrib in an attempt to impose a siege on the region which is the last stronghold of the legitimate government. Fierce clashes flared up leaving tens of casualties from both sides during the last few hours. Houthi militias took over Al-Zor reaching the western area of Maʼrib Dam, along with mountains that border pivotal supply lines. Fierce clashes forced many into fleeing especially to Al-Zour camp adjacent to Maʼrib Dam. Houthi militias aim at taking over Maʼrib before holding any talks with the Yemeni legitimate government especially in light of the new US administration’s drive for a political settlement
