Iraq- Livestock Sector is on the Edge of Falling Down as Cattle Smuggling Increases

Cattle breeders in Sulaymaniyah Governorate shed light on the imminent danger that threatens livestock production in the Kurdistan region due to Iranian and Syrian cattle smuggling. They also pointed out that cattle smuggled through Iranian borders have had a chilling effect on breeders who were left in financial hardships incurring hefty losses as domestic production cost more than smuggled products. This may turn force breeders to shun their jobs. They also illustrated that Iranian and Syrian currencies’ value has been depreciating lately which resulted in making prices low, facilitating those smugglings. Therefore, the immediate measure should be enacted to save the livestock sector which otherwise will fall out
