Yemen: Amid Houthi Militias Atrocities and Siege, Patients with Blood Disorders are Suffering Exponentially

Amid war cruelties and the unbreakable siege imposed by Houthi militias on Taiz, patients with blood disorders are suffering the lack of medications in clinics and the rising prices of such medications in pharmacies. Sickle cell disease and Thalassemias are among the most prevalent diseases in Yemen, characterized by low red blood cells or hemoglobin which inhibit oxygen from reaching different parts of the body. World Health Organization indicated that treatment of Thalassemias in Yemen is impossible. It is worth mentioning that WHO has been grappling for years to meet the health sector’s necessities that has been in a state of deterioration since the outbreak of the war
