Cambodia – Forest to protect and preserve elephants

Cambodia has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world causing a shrink in the number of elephants. Covid-19 has negatively influenced the elephants due to a lack of tourists and funds to provide food. Taking a step towards saving the elephants, a forest was established to protect provide food for the elephants as well as encourage them to reproduce as the number of elephants lessened to 600. The forest in Kulen Mountains, Siam Reap provenance includes 13 elephants. Sanctuary Manager, Leanne Wallace, stated that citizens and tourists tend to see elephants in nature rather than in cities giving rides. She added that the villagers allowed elephants to range on their farms.
