Iraq – Expectations of Poor popular participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections
Baghdad – Iraq 10/08/2020
Analysts predicted that the parliamentary elections scheduled by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, on June 6th next year will witness a weak participation from the Iraqi citizen, due to the lack of trust the people feel for those who were formerly elected and the elections itself, analysts added that there are many files that should also be taken into account such as the file of displaced persons and the economic crisis and the Coronavirus pandemic, in addition to the high temperatures in June, all these things must be studied carefully before the date of parliamentary elections is set, pointing out that the most important thing in these elections is the consensus between all political blocs and official bodies first and then following the road map to achieve these elections, on the other hand, some citizens said that prime minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi should urge the pace towards achieving the mass demands of dissolving the parliament and holding early elections by legislating a transparent electoral law and ensuring that an independent electoral commission is present to achieve fair elections that represent the Iraqi street instead of belonging to any political party.
