Qamishli – Hasaka Province – Syria 15/05/2020
Licorice drink is one of Ramadan’s rituals that accompany the table during the holy month of Ramadan in Qamishli city in Hasaka governorate, and perhaps one of the most famous and oldest places that makes this distinctive drink is “Abu Abdo Al-Sawas”, who has taken this profession from his father and grandfather, where this family’s reputation has been known in the manufacturing of licorice syrup and tamarind for more than 100 years, and they are the first to introduce them to the city of Qamishli, people are very interested in buying licorice drink in the summer, especially during Ramadan, except that the curfew imposed in northern and eastern Syria due to the coronavirus and the depreciation of the Syrian pound against the dollar has greatly affected and led to a decline in people’s purchase of these drinks.
