Iraq – Demonstrators in Nasiriyah call on UN to protect them from their government and al-Sadr
Nasiriyah – Dhi Qar – Iraq 05/02/2020
Demonstrators in the southern Iraqi province of Dhi Qar chanted slogans calling on the United Nations and the European Union to intervene to protect them after they stoped believing in the government’s promises to protect them, accusing them and Iranian-backed militias of killing them, suppressing them and burning their tents in protest squares, they appealed for holding those responsible accountable in addition to all those who stole Iraq’s wealth and resources, those appeals appeared in the sit-in squares after the leader of the Iranian-backed Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr asked his supporters to return to the demonstration sit-ins in the Iraqi provinces, one day before Mohammed Allawi was appointed to form the new government, which was interpreted by the demonstrators as a pre-agreement between the Iraqi file officer of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Mohammed Kothrani and the former commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani, to suppress the demonstrations when choosing a prime minister by the political system.
