Iraq- Iraqi President affirms that the legitimacy of governance is in the hands of the people

Iraqi President Barham Salih has revealed that Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has agreed to resign, under specific conditions that ensure that there is no constitutional vacuum in the position of prime minister, Salih said in a televised speech today that the prime minister demanded an acceptable alternative through consultations with political and party forces, stressing that the legitimacy of governance is still in the hands of the Iraqi people, the Iraqi president’s speech comes as popular demonstrations continue to demand political and economic reforms.
