Iraq – Fears of forming an Iranian army on Iraqi territory

The case of the imposition of U.S. sanctions on a number of leaders of the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces continues to haunt the political circles in Iraq, especially after the decision of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, to merge the Popular Mobilization Forces with the Forces of the Iraqi Army, which raised fears of discrediting the Iraqi army and forming an Iranian army on Iraqi territory.
