Iraq – Growing suicide rates are worrying Iraqis

The phenomenon of suicide in Iraq has recently increased markedly, according to the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights, which attributed the increase of this phenomenon to the spread of violence, deteriorating economic conditions, high unemployment and the disintegration of social bonds, as well as the spread of the scourge of drugs in Iraqi society after the US occupation in 2003, Baghdad’s Operations Commanders found that the causes that push Iraqis to commit suicide are poverty and mental disorder, stressing their keen desire to exert all their energies to discourage people from committing suicide.
