Iraq – Woman weaves a robe to promote peace and harmony among peoples

Shanaz Jamal, who is an Iraqi woman from Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan, was able to weave an embroidered robe that is ornamented with different symbols of different denominations and religions with the aim of promoting peace and harmony among people of different religions in Iraq. The white robe features a crescent, cross and the star of David, as well as Faravahar, which is the winged symbol of Zoroastrianism, and the sun and temples of the Yazidis. Shanaz Jamal said that this idea aims to promote Kurdistan as a symbol of peace and coexistence. After five months of endeavor, she stitched together eight symbols representing the main communities in Iraq and she plans on traveling to the Vatican to offer her artwork to Pope Francis as a “symbol of peace and harmony in the world”.
