Yemen – Taiz faces severe water crisis

The people of Taiz, southwestern Yemen, are experiencing a serious water crisis caused by the war and the siege that Taiz has been undergoing for nearly 4 years, not to mention the challenging economic conditions that Yemen is facing. The majority of Taiz residents are unable to afford water tanks for domestic use because they are expensive. One of the reasons why water does not get pumped to homes is that some wells are monopolized by owners of water desalination plants, not to mention that the water inventory is being consumed by Khat farms owners, which increases the demand and reduces the supply.
