Iraq – Kurds and Arabs celebrate by lighting the Nowruz flame in Erbil

Public celebrations and various events in Erbil in Kurdistan Region of Iraq to mark Nowruz and Kurdish New Year on March 21st of every year. The events that lasted 10 days were held in Shandar Park in Erbil city center. The events were participated in by large numbers of Kurds and Arabs. The Nowruz flame was lit at the festival to the music of the traditional folklore Kurdish Dabke dances. The festival included various art performances including dancing, singing and Kurdish Dabke, during which participants wore the traditional Kurdish dress, as well as fireworks that adorned the sky of Erbil city. Participants expressed the importance of this day that reflects the spirit of brotherhood, coexistence and unity between Kurds and Arabs and rejecting sectarianism.
