Iraq – Iranian Foreign Minister and Iraqi counterpart stress the need to enhance bilateral ties

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammad Ali al-Hakim held a joint press conference in Baghdad, in which the two sides emphasized the need to cement closer ties between the two countries. Zarif commended Iraq’s much-admired role and continuous efforts to readmit Syria into the Arab League. For his part, Hakim stated that the two countries share common grounds when it comes to fighting terrorism and resolving the region’s current crises, adding that the two countries enjoy historically and culturally rooted relations. He elaborated that the two sides discussed ways to boost relations in all arenas, as well as modifications to previous agreements in the fields of agriculture, industry and trade. He also mentioned the topics to be addressed during President Rouhani’s visit to Baghdad on Monday.
