Iraq – More than 500 thousand Iraqis have migrated abroad since ISIS emerged

The “Immigrant Project” in Iraq and Kurdistan, which aims to raise awareness about the risks of illegal immigration, announced that around 555 thousand people from Iraq have immigrated since ISIS emerged. This year, more than 47 thousand people immigrated due to Iraq’s instability. Statistics also revealed that around 274 people had drowned since 2014, more than 69 people of which had drowned in the sea during migration this year. The migration project in Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq aims to raise awareness about the risks of illegal immigration by setting up seminars and workshops in universities and institutes. The project, which was established in the beginning of 2018, also gives guidance for those wishing to migrate about new regulations concerning illegal immigrants in European countries.
