Jordan – Protests against fuel and electricity price hikes

The Jordanian government’s decisions to raise fuel and electricity prices, in addition to the amended income tax bill outraged the Jordanians in various sectors, as thousands of whom went out to the streets last night in various Jordanian cities and marched in protest calling for the “fall of the government”. Hundreds also gathered on Thursday night in front of the Prime Ministry in the capital Amman until dawn on Friday in protest against the government’s decisions before the security services break up their sit-in. Protest marches were also held today in the center of Amman and near the Prime Minister’s Office, where protesters shouted many chants against the Prime Minister’s policies, calling for the fall of the government and the House of Representatives. A large number of citizens parked their vehicles on the roads since last night in various provinces of the Kingdom to protest against the increase in fuel prices. It is worth mentioning that he Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, instructed the government on Friday morning to freeze the price hikes on fuel and electricity.
