Storyline:
After six years of fighting, Yemeni civilians are taking advantage of a fragile ceasefire and the last weekend of the Eid Al Adha holiday by flocking to the beach in Aden.
The coast of the war-torn country’s fourth largest city attracts visitors from all parts of south Yemen, where citizens complain of a lack of parks and other public facilities.
Resident Muhammad Al-Babouri told A24 News Agency that Aden’s coast is the only safe outlet for people to enjoy the outdoors after the war destroyed most of the country’s parks.
While enjoying the return to normalcy, beachgoers say authorities need to allocate more outdoor recreation areas and provide access at fair prices that everyone can afford.

Soundbite (Muhammad Al-Babouri – Yemeni man):
“We call on the authorities to designate special areas for families and to reopen places that were closed due to the war in 2015. Before the outbreak of the war, there were many parks for families to go to. With the lack of tourist places, people and youth have nowhere to go but the coasts.”
Soundbite (Salah Abdel-Waseh – Yemeni man):
“There are so many people heading to the coasts because of the lack of parks and recreational places. Shopping malls are crowded with people too. The government should create more parks and public places like this coast, which is available for the public for free.”
