Storyline

The MISOTA company is specialized in the processing and distribution of tropical dried fruits and food products for local and export markets. It was founded by a Cambodian couple in 2017. The company has provided job opportunities to the local communities in the Battambang province. The company’s work and achievements have lured in donors who want to support the company to be able to export Cambodian products to international markets and expand the business in the future. Mr. TAN Michel, who is the founder of MISOTA, said that he aspires to promote the Khmer products, adding that there are not many companies that specialize in the field of processing in the country. HE said that the company’s end goal is to make the world familiar with Cambodian fruits. HE seemed optimistic about the progress and success of his company in the international market, saying that his MISOTA has secured international accreditations, including ISO 22000 and ISO 9001.

(Soundbite) Mr. TAN Michel, the MISOTA Founder:

“The first reason I set up this factory was that I wanted to promote agriculture in Cambodia and help farmers who face difficulties in finding markets for their yield. Currently, traders set the prices of the farmers’ yield, making it difficult for farmers.”

(Soundbite) Mr. TAN Michel the MISOTA Founder:

“Second, I wanted to promote Khmer products. In our country, there are many kinds of fruit, but there are not many fruit processing factories. And what I strive to do is to bring standard Cambodian products abroad, to let the world familiar with Cambodian products and make our country proud.”

(Soundbite) Mr. TAN Michel, the MISOTA Founder:

“Exporting Cambodian products abroad is a difficult task; if our products do not have standards, it will be very difficult to compete with foreigner’s products. The products of our factory have received GMP, HACCP, and recently my company has just received ISO 22000 and ISO 9001.”

(Soundbite) Mr. TAN Michel, the MISOTA Founder:

“I thank HARVEST II for always supporting my company. This project has helped a lot, especially with technology, to connect my company with farmers and help guide farmers on how to grow safely and how to use chemical fertilizers to meet the standards.”

(Soundbite) Mrs. Ith Kallyan (Deputy Chief of Party for Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest II):

“The potential of MISOTA is not only to have a company owner who is highly committed to bringing Cambodian products to the international arena; this couple from France is sincere and wants to help farmers who are suffering. That’s why the project partnered with them.”

(Soundbite) Mr. Lay Moav, a farmer:

“Since I started growing pineapples, the market for pineapples has never been stable. When pineapples are plentiful, I sell them cheaply, but when there are not many pineapples on the market, I raise my price.”

(Soundbite) Mr. Lay Moav, a farmer:

“I got to know MISOTA in 2019, and my yield was sold in a good price and was stable because we signed a contract with this company. The company also advised me on how to grow raw materials and use natural fertilizers to get quality products.”

(Soundbite) Mrs. Ith Kallyan, the Deputy Chief of the Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest II party:

“We help the business, but we are also sure that we also help the farmers and other people, because our project has put out a new job creation plan for MISOTA, and this company got a good score on the plan. Our project also helps to connect the company with the international buyers, like USA, France and some European countries.”

(Soundbite) Mr. TAN Michel (MISOTA Founder):

“Fresh fruits and dried fruits are different if we need to bring fresh fruits during traveling we have to take a knife with and it easy or fast ripening. For dried fruit, we can take it everywhere, and on the other hand, dried fruit can retain vitamins, the taste quality is not much changed.”
