Popular folk game Al-Siniyah (Tray) is back in cafes in Sulaimaniyah during Ramadan, which is a traditional Kurdish game played by young men after Iftar and Taraweeh prayer. Bashkot Ali, game master and cafe owner said that Ramadan provides an atmosphere of entertainment for young men to enjoy themselves after Iftar and Taraweeh prayer. He mentioned that this game brings together people of different madhahib (schools of Islamic law) and religions. He said the Kurdish name of the game is ‘Sini Zarf’, which is of Ottoman Turkish origin. The game consists of 11 upturned glasses with a ring hidden underneath one of them and is played in 2 teams of 3 or 6.
